Our founder, Julio Vitelio Ruiz Hernández, passed away on April 15, 2019 at night. This Academic of Merit of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba and Hero of Labour of the Republic of Cuba was the creator of the Center for Applied Linguistics and a pioneer of Acoustic and Experimental Phonetics studies in Cuba.Dr. Vitelio Ruiz Hernández directed important projects of great national impact, among which stand out: Spelling in primary school students in Cuba, A synchronic study of the speech of Santiago de Cuba (phonetic-phonological level), The VAL-CUBA Orthographic Vaccine and The Auditory Dictionary for Blind Persons.
Vitelio Ruiz Hernández will always be honored and remembered by his family, disciples and colleagues.
