The Center for Applied Linguistics organized on April 23, 2012 a Spelling and Culture Enhancement Session to celebrate Spanish Language Day at the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado semi boarding school. One of the main activities was the Spelling Contest carried out every year on this date and led by Dr. Eloína Miyares and Dr. Vitelio Ruiz. Other activities included the recording of new emissions of the Saber Andar radio program, written by the previously mentioned professionals and broadcast by local stations. This time the program included a group of cultural expressions written by students who showed their knowledge of the countries of Our Americas, specially those parts of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA).(April 2012)
