Tribute paid to Eloína Miyares Bermúdez and Julio Vitelio Ruiz Hernández, in the commemoration of the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Normal School of Oriente

On October 9, 2019, with the participation of normal-school teachers, authorities of the Ministry of Education, the Cuban Communist Party and the Government in the province of Santiago de Cuba, workers of the Center for Applied Linguistics, students and teachers of the “Floro Pérez” Pedagogical School, based in the former Normal School of Oriente, the 103rd anniversary of its foundation was celebrated.

During the ceremony, floral wreaths were laid in honor of martyrs Frank País García and Floro Pérez, one of them by the director of the Center for Applied Linguistics, Dr. Leonel Ruiz Miyares, accompanied by a future teacher.

Once in the theater, unforgettable moments were revived. A highlight was the choir of the school singing the emblematic hymn Hosanna Normalistas (Hosanna, Normal-School Teachers), sung by the new generation accompanied by the voices of normal-school teachers.

Another moment of great significance and emotion was the projection of a video of the already deceased Eloína and Vitelio, teachers by profession and by heart, describing important facets of their life and work, their unconditional dedication to teaching and research, their love for this city and for the Cuban Revolution, which serve as an example and a guide for active teachers and teachers in training.
