Abstract: aim of this work —directed at secondary education pupils and professors— is to increase students’ knowledge of the mother tongue, which is an educational need in Cuba. Students’ vocabulary and knowledge of the mother tongue are improved with a variety of instructive and enjoyable exercises, most of them in the form of games, related to the enriching derivation process, particularly using prefixes and suffixes. The exercises, notable for their didactic and psychological values, are graded from simple to complex in order to achieve different levels of development in students while combining language elements. The fact that the exercises have been prepared from a corpus of derived words selected from school textbooks leads to increased mental agility and pupils’ knowledge of the subjects included in the curriculum for the grade in question. The book also offers theoretical information on important morphological aspects and the corpus of words in the appendixes, all of which may be useful for professors.
