Senior researchers from the Centre for Applied Linguistics Eloina Miyares Bermudez and Vitelio Ruiz Hernandez were granted the 2010 Work National Hero award. This award is a well-deserved recognition of the outstanding work carried out by these two researchers for the correct use of language.
This octogenarian couple has been united by common professional interests and share experiences like their studies at the Oriente Teacher Training School, the foundation of the Centre for Applied Linguistics and the teaching of scientific courses to professionals from different specialties. Among the many books they have written based on studies jointly conducted by them outstand the Estudio del Léxico Activo Funcional del Escolar Cubano, awarded in 1987 by the Academy of Sciences of Cuba; the Vacuna Ortográfica Val-Cuba, and the Diccionario Básico Escolar. These and other important work results perfectly back up the award granted to these important figures from the Cuban culture. (May 2010)
