The staff of the Center for Applied Linguistics (CLA)gathered on April 28 at the house of the founder of this institution and researcher Dr. Julio Vitelio Ruiz Hernández to congratulate him on his 89th birthday. Vitelio, as his colleagues affectionately call him, devoted his entire life and professional career together with his wife, Dr. Eloína Miyares Bermúdez, to studying the Spanish language, and made significant contributions to Linguistics in the fields of Phonetics, Lexicology, Lexicography and Spelling. After his son Dr. Leonel Ruiz Miyares expressed congratulations, Vitelioreceived a beautiful bouquet of flowers on behalf of the staff of the Center for Applied Linguistics, as a token of eternal gratitude for his valuable scientific work. On April 27 and May 11, the Canal Educativo will pay homage to Dr. Eloína Miyares Bermúdez and Dr. Julio Vitelio Ruiz Hernández, respectively,on the TV program ‘Presence’. (April 28, 2017)
